Lonnie Poole Results
What a great day to end the season on.  We enjoyed having the opportunity to play on the course the day after our practice round.  I couldn't be more proud of you guys and how you have pursued this season.  Lonnie Poole is a tough course but offers some good scoring chances when not in trouble.  All trouble was big trouble.  Sand will eat up your strokes quickly.  Spring came late this year and this was our first round of golf on what seemed to be greens that had real turf.  It was slow on the green unless you had the downhill putt which was quick and slippery.  Well here are our results.  We earned more of the same but cut it too close with Enloe in this last round.  Only beat them by 1 stroke for 7th place.  Near miss there! Check out the results and the CAP 8 final sheet.

Evan Walsh 41*
Josh Pearce 44*
Jordan Pearce 48*
Kevin Lynn 52*
Chris Merritt 53
Jordan Brown 56

4/15 Lonnie Poole

Lonnie Poole has done a great job with its love-hate relationship for golfers.  It is a challenging course and I always look forward to seeing my players compete there almost as much as I like playing there.  We will be playing the back nine same as previous years.  There is a lot of sand round the greens and in stroke eating fairways.  Ball first from the fairway, sand first greenside.  Always accelerate the club.  For the exception of one par three with the green way below you it seems that you are always playing up to the green.  See the score card below as CAP 8 has predetermined the tee placement on a hole by hole basis (yellow).   We hope the last match of the year will yield personal and team bests to cap of the season.  We also anticipate we will have a great time and I am proud of my guys’ commitment, diligence, and day to day shot to shot effort.  We had an early playoff for this match so that Monday can truly be a practice round without the pressure of qualifying for the event.  Rank, starting holes, score card below.

1. Evan Walsh #13 (with BHS5, WK2, HTG2)
2. Josh Pearce #15A (HTG2, LR5, MLB4)
3. Jordan Pearce #16 (WFR5, EN2, WK4)
4. Kevin Lynn #17 (HTG6, EN3, WK5)
5. Chris Merritt #18A (WK6, EN4, WFR6)
6. Jordan Brown #18B (EN5, EN6, MLB6)

4/10/13 Wakefield Plantation TPC Results
Well no one ever had a problem with consistency and we got it.  Nice day out at Wakefield Plantation TPC.  For once, out scores were less than the temperatures.  I would hope so on an 84 degree day.  We scored a 186 yesterday.  This is on average with our performance this season.  I saw some highlight plays yesterday which included a back to back par for Evan Walsh and a pressure building 8ft birdie putt after a monster hole by Chris Merritt.  The team voted to get Ashton Larkin his rookie match experience out of the way.  He’s disappointed as a would-be bogey golfer but hope he understands that I knew he would score in the 60’s because of the new pressures to being in competition golf.  This pressure often spoke of but undermined in the sport is quite significant and I am impressed by our team’s ability to anticipate and manage the mental game of golf.  Next week we tackle our last match of the season at Lonnie Poole.

Evan Walsh - 43*
Josh Pearce - 45*
Jordan Pearce - 47*
Reece Knight - 55
Chris Merritt - 51*
Ashton Larkin - 66
Team total - 186 7th place

4/9/13
Today we approach our 6 match rounding out our season into next week.  We play the home of the Web.Com Rex Hospital Open, Wakefield Plantation TPC.  I am looking forward to some golf that is a continuation of constancy and a capitalization of scoring opportunities.  It will be a warm 80 something today.  All positive thinking, only swing when your last thought is a positive image of your outcome matched with confidence to carry it through. Finish the putter to the cup; its Two Putt Tuesday!

Hasentree Results.  Wow what a cool opportunity.  I really enjoyed making this match a Senior Event.  It was great Tom Fazio designed course.  It was wide open giving players the opportunity to make lots of interesting shots.  Errant shots were not punished with water, trees, deep rough, and OB but deep fairway pot bunkers throughout caused some grief.  I was real excited to see some nice outcomes yesterday.  Anthony has continued to improve his game this year and put himself in the position to score top 4 for the second time this season with a 49.  Pretty good for a player who had difficulty qualifying for matches in the past.  Jordan Pearce posted a 49 which continues his streak of top 4 scores in all of our 5 matches.  His brother, Josh Pearce has also placed in all 5 matches posting a 45 last night and pushed through a difficult round.  Evan Walsh broke into the 30’s with a 39 getting into the swing of his best golf in his 4th year on the team.  We totaled a 182.  I am pleased.  Next week is Spring Break followed by a playoff on Monday April 8th to determine the roster for our match at Wakefield Plantation TPC on Tuesday April 9th.  Evan Walsh and Josh Pearce have already qualified for this match based on their performance at Hasentree.  I hope you guys have a restful and purposeful break.  Keep your swings on point and I’ll see you ready golf in a few days.

Wildwood Green Results
A special thank you to "Coach" Donatini for stepping in on our recent match while I was out of town.  I really appreciate everyone stepping up.  Congratulations to Josh for getting his score back from recovery mode. Congratulations to Evan, Josh, Jordan, and Kevin for placing in the top 4 of all matches they played this season.

I hadn't the opportunity to review any score cards, just the total results and it looks like things went OK.  With half of the season behind us it is important to avoid feelings of complacency.  Having fun-yes, going with the flow-no.  Balance of stress and calm is hard to find.  My personal feeling regarding the management of this stress is found in unnecessary and perhaps even unfounded confidence. For example, "I am the best looking guy in this room." This is possibly true because I am the only one in the room but yet the belief helps when communicating with others or performing in front of large groups in a way that presents a level of competence.  Stress over image, outcome, result, fear of failure only makes you actually unattractive and more likely to miss your makeable shot.  You could use unnecessary and perhaps even unfounded confidence. "You are the best golfer to strike your ball."  This is possibly true because you are the only one who strikes your ball yet the belief helps when competing and playing golf in a way that presents a level of competitiveness.

Carolina Country Club Results.
In our previous matches we had more consistent play.  Yesterday, we saw more moments of glory and more moments of defeat.  Golf gods were occasionally against us leading our not so good shots to a series of rough ones.  We are however, the sole responsible party of our results and it’s easy (perhaps even therapeutic) to shift blame to things outside of our control and things the happen to us.  We played Carolina Country Club and had to quickly shift from the front to back 9.  I thought the course was going to be pretty short and easy but I thought wrong.  The windy day with 3 par 5s and 3 par 3s ate up some strokes. Congratulations to Evan Walsh for posting a 41 with 3 pars and 2 birdies and big ups to Kevin Lynn for 3 straight qualifying top 4 scores.

We Early Release at 1:50.  No bus, we will Car-pool.  Carolina Country Club is a shorter course than Heritage.  We will be looking for some tight controlled shots and a confident putter.  Focus on taking advantage of our moments to stay par by taking calculated risks and knocking it down with authority. Parents, please see the previous post as well.

3/11/13
Here we go to CAROLINA COUNTRY CLUB.  We will plan to carpool unless I hear otherwise.  CCC would like you to know that spectators will be walking and that food/beverages are to come from thier shop. There is also a dress code for slacks and tucked in shirts though it was unclear if this was just meant for the golfers. We are the standard for good looking anyway. Our ranks are still TBD after today's playoff.  Here are the proposed starting holes.

I am proud of our performance yesterday. It was a long and difficult course. As I suspected, the middle of the field has already begun to shuffle which will offer opportunity for us to stay focused and purposeful, ready to drop in on their conversation.  Let’s make it our conversation. Congratulations to Evan for posting a 40 which put him well into the top half of the field.  Congratulations to the team for consistent quality scores.  Our highest score has never been this low, which means we are deeper and more capable than we have ever been.

I am aware that some players are less than satisfied. It is a real challenge to battle demons of disappointment.  What we often forget, is there is little to disappoint when not the opportunity.  You are doing everything right to earn yourself the opportunity but these “moments” are still new.  You are allowed to come short only so you may remember, anticipate, and overcome your next moment. 180 is respectable gain from our previous match and only 11 team strokes away from our goal to get in the 160’s.  We will get there.

I observed quite a bit yesterday and saw mostly great tee shots and good recovery shots.  I also saw mental mistakes, missed make-able putts, and approach shots left short.  These strokes are consequence of hesitation and clouded vision before your swing.  Golf cannot be played with avoidance thinking (“don’t leave it low, don’t go in the water, don’t …”). You can only score your best with confident aggressive self-talk.  Hope and expectancy are up to you to learn.  Nothing you don’t already know.

You have homework this weekend. Practice your time taking negations out of your talk.  Such as, “I don’t want to be late” to “I will get home on time.” Turn “Not” statements into the positive.

On Monday, we playoff for our Match at Carolina Country Club.  Evan Walsh, Jordan Pearce, and Josh Pearce have qualified for this match.  Spots 4, 5, and 6 are fair game.  See you Monday!

Season opener results from NRCC.  Today we finished our 1st match with the smallest discrepancy from lowest score to highest score in team history.  Our 6 players scored a range of 44 to 53.  With a couple miscues by most and a couple standout performances by a few we settled in at 7th place (familiar) with a 191 4 score total. 6th place was 28 strokes away today.  1st place team averaged 35.5; 6th place average 40.75, and we averaged 47.75. We have a long but attainable way to go.  See Cap 8 results tab for the division spread sheet. Overall we saw some good golf shots on a cool clear day at a nice course.  A personal best along with a first time qualifier post for Davis. -Quite NICE! and a respectable post from rookies Knight and Brown in thier competition debut.

Monday March 4th North Ridge Country Club
We open up our season at the NRCC on Monday. http://www.northridgecountryclub.org/ With 4 of our golfers at a DECA Conference, we have an opportunity to get a couple rookies in early action.  North Ridge is near-by off The Falls of the Neuse Rd.  This is a private facility and we are assigned the "inside" 9 of THE OAKS course (1-5,15-18).  Golfers; you should visit http://www.usga.org/RulesQuiz/rules_quizzes.html to study the rules.  Knowing the rules will make you more confident.  Confidence in golf is required for low scores and winning.  In my father's words, "play'n good is lookin' good," so take the weekend to clean up your clubs, transition your bag, and make sure you have everything you need to be to be prepared for great golf. You may want to play this weekend some but you shouldn't be working on too much that will cloud your mental process and jam you up. If practicing, note everything will be great on Monday when you chip and putt well. Spectators are encouraged to "spectate" which involves sticking to the path and providing encouragement and applauding- no coaching, no informing, no influencing club decisions or addressing the swing. What you may think helps your kid may actually get him DQ. You may wittiness some violators which you may have an opportunity to redirect the parent appropraitely or you can tell a coach who will take care of it. Coaches and proshop are available for rules decisions. Parent assistance with transporting groups to their tee/back to the club house and searching for errant golf balls is quite welcome.

We early release from school at 1:45 to the minibus in the student parking area.  Tee time is 3:00
Below is our group by rank and  starting hole. Our group of 4 will be paired Sanderson, Millbrook, Wakefield, Wake Forest
